Riverbank camping diorama

A small camp set up on a riverbank.

A wooden diorama base painted with a riverbank scene, holding a canvas-and-pole tent, a felt campfire, a balsa fishing rod, and a small cast of forest animals (fox, badger, owl, rabbit). Pieces lift off the base; children rebuild the camp from scratch every time.

Ages & how it’s used

Made for ages 4 and up. Pieces are sized for a small hand; the tent unzips and re-zips on a soft fabric closure. Story play, small-world play, sometimes a quiet bedtime ritual where the fox goes to sleep before the badger.

Care

Dry-cloth the painted base. Felt fire and canvas tent can be spot-cleaned with a damp linen. Animals are sealed with water-based finish — wipe-clean only, no submerging.

Yes, on a soft fabric closure (no zip). Children open and close it dozens of times across an afternoon — it’s rated for this.

Is the fishing line safe?

Cotton-linen blend, blunt wooden tip. No metal hook anywhere on this set.

Are the animals fixed to the base?

No — every piece lifts off, including the fire. Re-staging is half the play.

How big is the whole scene?

The base is roughly 28×18 cm. The set fits on a child’s reading-table or a low shelf.
